TV Show Revivals - A Rambling

I loved a lot of tv shows and I was sad when they finished airing but I don't want revivals of those shows. When a show is over or is cancelled, that's it for me. I don't want them to be revived even if they didn't have a definite ending. Even if they use the same actors, writers, directors, producers or use the same set, etc, it's just not the same. That certain, original flavor, flair or uniqueness is gone. Plus, I really prefer not to see my favorite characters all aged or changed since it's a bit weird since I've never seen those actors grow older. So I'm not a fan of show revivals. How about you? Do you like your favorite tv shows to be revived or stayed the way they had ended?

  1. I know how you feel, I felt that way with the new Star Trek. I wanted to like it, since I am a long time trekie, but the way they did it-- didn't have the charm that the original had. (And I've seen a lot of trekies, complain about the things they did).

There were a few revivals that I like, but then again, it feels weird to continue it when the story ended pretty much. I liked the Leverage revival for example, but it felt extremely weird continuing it without Nate (one of the main characters). When the relationship he had another character had to be put to an abrupt end (due to the actor not being able to/not wanting to come back, I presume) with his offscreen death.

So, I have complicated feelings about TV show revivals.

    1. Quinley: I have seen the first episode of Picard and it was okay but, like you, I don't think it have the charm of the original.

I really dislike character deaths just because an actor is not available or didn't want to do a show but it's especially bad when he/she is part of a couple. I just hate that.

  3. I don't mind revivals if they are well done. Personally, I like the new Star Trek actors hired to play Kirk, Spock, and McCoy. I thought they did a great job! On the other hand, I recently tried to watch the new version of Night Court but it just simply wasn't funny like the old one was. And they ruined John Larroquette's miserable lawyer prosecutor character by turning him into a defence lawyer who was trying to help people. Who the hell wants to see that?

    1. Debra: The new Star Trek, they call that a reboot, I think but I haven't seen it.

I use to watch Night Court reruns and they were good. I haven't seen the revivial but I don't like it when characters are changed from the original.

  5. I generally don't like them for many of the same reasons. I suppose one could win me over if done right, but that's so subjective.

    1. Greg: I suppose there are some exceptions but I haven't seen a good one yet. But yes, it is subjective as people have different taste and ideas.

  6. I was a super-maxi-huge fan of the original Law & Order, so I was excited to see it revived after 12 years, but I agree - it doesn't have the same flavour.

    1. Roberta: I was a fan of Law & Order but I don't know about the revival. I was thinking about watching season 21 or 22 (one of those), which is when the show was revived but I don't know.
