What is your favorite movie adapted from a book?

Book Blogger Hop
This week's (July 1st - 7th) Book Blogger Hop question is: What is your favorite movie adapted from a book? (submitted by Cheryl @ I Heart Fictional People). Book Blogger Hop is hosted by Billy at Coffee Addicted Writer over here.

Answer:
I cannot just pick one favorite so I'll list three. Coincidently, for all three, I read the book after I saw the movie. (click on the link for movie info):

The Princess Bride

I like that they ended at the happy moment and didn't go on with the more tragic bits.

Anne of Green Gables
02 - Anne of Green Gables > link
All the actors are just right for their roles especially Megan Follows as Anne Shirley.

Howl's Moving Castle
03 - Howl's Moving Castle > link
I do like the movie better than the book as the book wasn't as fun.

What is your favorite movie adapted from a book? Or if you can't just pick one, name a few.

  1. Oh! Howl's Moving Castle! Such a good movie! And Anne of Green Gables with Megan Followes is the only version of Anne that I care to watch.

    1. Lisa: I agreed with you on the Anne movie. I have seen trailers for the other Anne shows and movies with other actresses but I didn't like them.

  2. I very, very rarely see movies. And flatly refuse to see ones made from books I have loved.

    1. Christine: I have not thought of that but yes, that movie was quite good and I think most of the story it's very close to the book.

  4. iÍf TV serials count as well then Bridehead Revisited. Fantastic! Normally I hate books made into films because they always change things just for the sake of changing. Not so in Brideshead.

    1. Charlotte: I've not read Bridehead Revisited or seen the show but I'm glad you enjoy them.

It's true that whenever a book is made into a movie/film, they do change things but not always. I think some changes can be good or bad depending on your preference.

  5. Aww The Princess Bride! I watched that movie with a friend last year. I actually didn't know that it was based on a book! I'll have to look for it.

    1. Claire: The movie is almost the say as the book but as book form is different from movies, some find the book not that enjoyable. I definitely like the movie a little more than the book.

  6. I love The Princess bride although I've never read the book.

    1. Greg: Maybe it's better that you didn't. It sort of tells a parallel story between a boy and his grandfather and the princess bride - I suppose some of the interruptions annoy readers but I did liked the book but the movie is definitely more likable.

    1. Lark: That Anne movie was great and the sequel wasn't bad either but I really didn't like the third movie though.

  8. I read The Princess Bride years ago and don't remember much except that I really liked it. It was also a book that I read after the movie. I think I found the book a bit funnier, but I like both. Been meaning to read it again.

    1. Kit @ Metaphors and Moonlight: I guess I'm different as I find the movie funnier but maybe I need to re-read the book.

  9. I also really enjoyed the movie adaptation of Howl's Moving Castle better than the book. There was just something about the way they portrayed the characters in the movie compared to the book.

    1. Quinley: I think the characters in the movie are a little more fun than the book, at least, I think so. But watching a movie and reading a book is two different things.
