Maybe you have noticed many of my a-z posts (and my regular posts) are in list form. I kind of think in lists most of the time so it makes sense to post lists. Lists are easier to read and sometimes they are easier to write.
I usually limit my lists to 3, 5, 7, 10 or 14 items. That doesn't always mean I deliberately make them a certain number. Sometimes if I can't think of 4 items, I go with 3 and if I can't get past 6, I go with 5 and so on. But most of the time I go with 7 items because seven is sort of my favorite number. And I always place a number before each item because it's more ordered looking and readers can refer to a number instead of repeating what that item is referring to.
I'm an old-timer when it comes to blogging. This years makes 20 years of blogging for me. (I'll probably post about this in July when I celebrate this blog's anniversary). But there are bloggers who had blogged even longer than that. It's a bit comforting to know many bloggers keep blogging while so many had quitted.
Newbies to blogging (those with a few months posts) is a bit rare. I haven't seen any lately (those bloggers who started a blog just for the a-z challenge doesn't count). So maybe blogging is an old-fashioned hobby but I like it and it's still the only platform I'm comfortable using. Blogging has become not only a habit but a part of my life so I can never really quit it.
Do you like list posts? Are you an old-timer when it comes to blogging?

I've been blogging since 2012. I do feel that bloggers are a a dying breed. Compare the A-Z master list to ten years ago...
ReplyDeleteTamara: I hate to admit it but there really are less bloggers. Judging by the a-z list, there are less participants than years before. It's sad but what can we do?
DeleteThank you for dropping by. Have a lovely day.
i have been blogging for 15 years.
ReplyDeleteI think many would consider blogging old-fashioned generally because it's a lot of words. We live in a world in instants and if something can't be read instantly, many won't bother with it. Some communicate with just emojis. And with everything we gain with the instantaneous social media, I think we are losing even more.
Live and Learn: Fifteen years is a long time for blogging, I'm you're still blogging. Some people prefer instant everything. But at least, bloggers are still around.

Yes, I like list posts, although I don't tend to do them much myself. I've been blogging for 18 years so I'm in dinosaur territory too. Today's kids don't blog, they're all on TikTok making videos of themselves. Faster instant gratification.
ReplyDeleteDebra: I wouldn't say we're in dinosaur territory but maybe just slightly close to it. I still don't much care for TikTok but it seems anything new people just gravitate towards it until some other new things comes along so I guess it's why blogging is not as popular, it's not new and there's not much instant gratification involved.

I started blogging 19 years ago (good Lord). I think that the reason you don't see a lot of young'uns is that reading and writing are not as prevalent as before. But, who cares what I think? I'm an old dude.
ReplyDeleteAl Penwasser: I don't know about reading and writing not being prevalent since without people doing these two things, there wouldn't be books. But yeah, young people, I guess they have different priorities.

Old timer here
ReplyDeleteChristine: Same here. Thank you for dropping by. Have a lovely day.
DeleteI am an oldtimer too with 14 years of blogging. I agree that the younger ones are on other media, but I also think that blogging is in for a revival. Not now, but in a few years' time.
ReplyDeleteList posts - I don't really know what to say . I''m ambivalent here. On one hand it's easier to reply to only parts of it, on the other hand it's less like a blogging thing, less telling of a story, if you understand.
Charlotte: Strange, I always seem to think you've been blogging even longer than me but it isn't true.
DeleteLists posts are a preference, I guess. But yes, lists aren't stories but maybe they're like micro blogging. Sometimes I just want to say things with less words or less intricated way of saying something.
Thank you for dropping by. Have a lovely day.
I do like lists, and I will forever participate in Top Ten Tuesday. I like the goal of a number to keep me in line.
ReplyDeleteSamantha: I used to participate in Top Ten Tuesday. I can't remember why I stop but I'm thinking I should start participating again.
DeleteThank you for dropping by. Have a lovely day.
I used to participate every week. Now I take a break when a subject has come up several times and I don't want to repeat myself. So, just pick and mix.
DeleteSame as you, I love lists and have published many, many in my blog. Though I have not blogged as long as you, I "only" started in 2010.
ReplyDeleteMarianne: Lists are amazing. I had posted a ton of list posts. I had thought you've blogged a long, long while. My math's bad but it sounds like you've blogged for 16 years which is quite a long while.
DeleteThank you for dropping by. Have a lovely day.
Your math is good. It will be sixteen years in October. ;) And I still enjoy it. Meeting people like you always makes it fun.
