I had talked about a lot of blogging pet peeves before so I thought I just list a few that I didn't talk about. Here are three of my blog pet peeves.
01 - Script, italic or fonts that look like hand writing — Using script fonts and such sparely is fine but if the whole content is using them, I find it hard to read. I know this is a preference and sometimes it looks great but I would prefer to use these sparingly.
02 - Posts that kept on going — I think this feature is only for Wordpress blogs. I have not seen it on any other types of blogs. When I like a new-to-me blog, I like to browse the archive to see what else a blogger have posted, so having older posts keep appearing as you scroll down is not a good way to browse because it's especially daunting if a blogger have years of posts. You can't stop and bookmark and come back to it later. I don't know if this is a template thing or a feature thing but it's definitely one that I wish people would stop using.
03 - Subscribe popup box — It used to be subscribe popup boxes pops up when you go to a blog but now after you press the comment button, it pops up before the comment goes through which I just don't get. It's interrupting the comment process to ask if you want to subscribe – that's dumb and dumber too if I leave another comment, I'll see that same subscribe button again. I do not subscribe to blogs and even if I do, I like to be able to choose to do it and not have a box to remind me every time I comment.
Do you have any blog pet peeves?

I don't have any blogging pet peeves that I can think of. Perhaps I should investigate more and see if any tick me off...?
ReplyDeleteAl Penwasser: Maybe you really didn't have any blogging pet peeves or maybe you're better at ignoring them? Some days, I just pretend there's nothing wrong with Blogger to make it easy for myself.
DeleteThank you for dropping by. Have a lovely day.
Agree - especially with 1 and 3. Subscribe, accept cookies, share... - why don't they let me read first?
ReplyDeleteTamara: Readers should be allow to read and then complain.
DeleteThank you for dropping by. Have a lovely day.
Most of my pet peeves are with Blogger. It drives me crazy sometimes with its formatting problems, but it's a free service, so I guess I can't complain.
ReplyDeleteLive and Learn: I didn't have much problems with Blogger but some of them errors or pet peeves are a bit much.
DeleteThank you for dropping by. Have a lovely day.
blogger is free so we put up with a lot such as commenting problems.
ReplyDeleteChristine: I agreed with you, if Blogger isn't free, I think I might do more than complain.
DeleteThank you for dropping by. Have a lovely day.
Oh, I am TOTALLY with you on Pet Peeve #1.
ReplyDeleteDebra: It's nice you agreed with me on #1. Actually, I've only encountered a few blogs with script-like fonts so it's not really an issue much.
DeleteThank you for dropping by. Have a lovely day.
I cannot visualize posts that keep on going. I had hopped over to WP for under a year, but I don't think I understand what you are describing. I do hate all the popups. I really don't like the ads that I have to close out of. The pages overwhelm me.
ReplyDeleteSamantha: For example, this blog - The Book Nut (https://thebooknut.com) - has years of posts so if you check out her previous posts by scrolling down, more posts will appear (sometimes it takes a few moment) unitl it reaches the very first post back in 2004. I hope that's clear. (I spelled stroll instead of scroll, sorry about that, I've corrected it in the post.)

ReplyDeleteToo many typos, reposting:
DeleteI agree with you on all three.
1. Give me a sensible font in dark on a light background! I sometimes give up reading blogs with strange fonts or light on dark lettering. And I feel cheated because I cannot read an else good and interesting blog.
2. Archives! Give me an archive. I know exactly what you mean by those never ending scrolls. And I like to read blogs from older to newer content. Not possible with this template - at least I think it's a template - or more templates, maybe.
3. It's mostly WordPress asking me to subscribe to comment. And worse when the "continue reading" clickable thingy is invisible!
I do hate those pop-up boxes!
ReplyDeleteSorry, I can't find your blog on the MasterList. But I see you commented on the "O" post on the A to Z site. Sorry about the A to Z "N" post. It has been repaired. 🫰🏾

I chose a script like font for my blog titles and regret it, but I'm not going through all the necessary hassle to change it. I use regular letters for the actual blog posts and lately have been choosing a larger size for older eyes to easily read.
ReplyDeleteRiver: For a blog title, it's okay to have script font and because it's large, it's easy to read. I'm mostly referring to the font in the content, in the blog posts.
DeleteHere I thought you didn't know how to make the large text in your post smaller. I might have left a comment about making them smaller, didn't realize you wanted that large text. Sorry about that.
Thank you for dropping by. Have a lovely day.
That's interesting. I cannot say that I've ever come across your second and third problem. What I don't like is when I click "notify me of follow-up comments", that I get another e-mail where I have to click again, to "subscribe" to the post. Didn't I do that already?
ReplyDeleteAnd I totally agree with your first one. I like a handwriting font if it is used for a signature but otherwise they are just a nuisance, especially when people then capitalize everything.
Marianne: I don't really know how follw up comments work. I thought you just follow once.
DeleteI've seen people capitalizing script fonts which is bad because it makes it even harder to read.
Thank you for dropping by. Have a lovely day.
In most cases, I just click on "notify me" and that's that. But some bloggers then have to send you a message first whether you really want to follow that post.
DeleteAnd yes, capitalizing too much in anything is already annoying but if you use handwriting fonts, it's unbearable.
It's always a pleasure visiting you. And the same to you, have a great day.
I agree on all of these! I think scripts, italics and handwriting fonts are neat and have their place, but it's often times distracting unless there's a specific purpose and intention behind it.
ReplyDeleteI think it might be both; I've seen a few templates that have that as an option but you can turn it off — and I definitely turn it off whenever I switch to a new template or go find a different one if it isn't an option. Having a lot of old posts that keep appearing as you scroll also causes lag on my phone and laptop after hitting a certain amount and at that point I just click out completely.
I also don't really subscribe to blogs — mostly so my inbox doesn't get bogged down, and I figure if I like the blog enough, I'll remember to check back regularly without needing to subscribe.
I have a pet peeve with super large headers that take up the entirety of my screen along with clashing colors that are super bright (for some blogs it definitely works! But for a lot of blogs... they tend to make things unreadable). I just don't think a blog's name really needs to be an entire screen large?
