Introductions & Identities

I have a first post but I also an about page (titled hello) and also a gadget (It starts with 'Hello!') at the bottom of the footer – they are all a sort of introduction to the blogger (to me that is). I think every blog should have at least one of these so that readers know who is behind the blog even if they know just a name. If I like a blog, I like to check out the about page or introduction post. Maybe your visit to a blog is just a few minutes but you might like to learn a fact or two about a blogger.
I enjoyed some anonymity by not posting my full name or a photo of myself in these intros. It's not just to protect myself from internet trolls but it's also a preference. These days you cannot sign up for anything online without giving your info which includes your real name and a lot of things that shouldn't be on the web. Unless you're a celebrity or someone who is already in the spotlight or that you had to blog for work or something that is necessary to use real names, I think bloggers should not have to give out their real identity in order to blog.

Do you like introduction/about pages? Do you blog with your real name?

  1. I don't have an introduction page but I do have a basic blogger profile on my blog. I'm careful not to use my real surname on the blog, but "Debra" is my actual first name. "Debra She Who Seeks" is my spiritual name, to the extent that people still have such things.

    1. And you know, "Melissa" and "Debra" are the same name but in different languages -- Greek and Hebrew, respectively. Both mean "Honeybee" and both also connote "Priestess of the Goddess" from their usage in ancient times.

    2. Debra: I didn't know "Debra She Who Sees" is a spiritual name but it sounds just right for you.

I didn't know that about the our names. I guess we have that in common. I don't really much care for the meaning of 'honeybe' but I'm struck with it.

Thank you for dropping by. Have a lovely day.

  2. When I started blogging I didn't care much about anonymity. These days I tend to agree with you. I hate that you need a profile for every little thing like ordering pizza.
I have an "About Me" page on my blog, and it's outdated ;-)

    1. Tamara: It kind of sucks that we need to sign up for every thing but also using real names. I'm sure the pizza people would prefer to know their customers, maybe.

My about page is also a bit outdated but at least, it's mostly relevant.

Thank you for dropping by. Have a lovely day.

  3. When I first started blogging, I used a fake name. In fact, that's the name that'll pop up here. But, you can definitely find my real name. There is a story behind "Al Penwasser." Actually kinda funny. Maybe after the challenge, I'll repost the post explaining its origin for those who are new.

  4. Okay, I checked. I do have an "About Me," although it's a tad silly and you won't learn much.

    1. Al Penwassar: I didn't really explore your blog as yet but I did think 'Al Penwasser' sounds a bit odd.

Even something that is silly says something about a blogger. I know from your posts and your blogger profile on the sidebar, you have a sense of humor.

Thank you for dropping by. Have a lovely day.
