Honest Blog Confessions

01 - Now and then I accidentally turn off or on some of the blogging features (for example, email comment notification) and then I forgot how to get it back so I have to search how to do it. It's dumb that this should happen even though I've been blogging for years but there's nothing I can do about it.

02 - Sometimes looking at a blogger's photo on their sidebar makes me uncomfortable. I find photos of real faces distracting while I'm browsing a blog. It's nice to see who is behind the blog but I wish they would place that photo in their about page or use an image that is an illustration or a symbol or an object. There are some very awkward photos on people's blog that I cannot unseen. (I'm not referring to Blogger's profile icons which are smaller.)

03 - I can be a bit annoying by pointing out the mistakes in someone's blog but usually just spelling mistakes and link mistakes (like when a link didn't work) because those are the kind of mistakes I like people to point out on my blog. Sadly, no one had pointed out I had misspelled 'of course' instead of letting me get away using 'of cause' for many years on my blogs. Maybe I should have checked the dictionary instead of relying on my word app's spellcheck which do not correct such things because it sees it as two separate words.

What honest confessions do you have about blogging?

  1. Sorry about my nausea-inducing picture. As far as pointing out mistakes, please do. I can be quite picky when it comes to spelling and grammar. And I always check whether a link works or not. But, sometimes mistakes slip through the cracks and I refuse to pay for a proofreader...lol.. As far as checking for historical accuracy of my posts? Yeah, most of what I write isn't historically accurate. For instance, the Greeks didn't try to pass off a wooden rabbit to the Trojans.

    1. Al Penwasser: I've seen your photos, there were a few. They're not nauseating. No one can not make mistakes so I don't fault anyone for that. I also refuse to pay a proofreader but mostly because I couldn't find any that will work for free. I don't remember much of what I learn in history class so I'm don't go about checking to see if anyone's being historically accurate but if you have common sense, you can tell when someone's not being historically accurate.

Thank you for dropping by. Have a lovely day.

  2. While I strive to use correct spelling and grammar errors and correct typos, I've had to learn to accept that they are going to happen. If I didn't do that, I would never post anything. When I see a misspelling or typo, in another's post, I just ignore it and read on. I only make a comment if I don't understand the meaning of something. Recently, someone pointed out that I had identified an animal on one of m posts and I was thankful for that.

    1. Live and Learn: No one can have mistake-free blog posts. I also can ignore some grammor errors and typos if I can understand what is written. But, like you, I'll point out something if I don't understand it.

  4. I have been a very sporadic blogger over the years and see how other people do stuff and still haven't worked out how to do so myself! I have learned not to correct people, because some people get bent out of shape. I got asked at work not to be so direct when giving feedback.

    1. Jeanie: I think the workplace is different from a blog but some people don't like to be corrected so I only point things out when I know that person didn't mind or if it's absolutely necessary.

  5. Like Live and Learn if I notice a typo I usually ignore it; it's bound to happen and most of us are blogging as a hobby rather than a professional field. That being said, if it's a glaringly obvious one like a wrap up that should say 2026 has 2025 instead, then I'd reach out and let them know especially if we have a relationship of sorts already. I'm less keen with someone I don't interact with outside of blog comments since I never know how someone will react.

    1. Hannah: Some people react badly to being told their mistakes but I do also try not to say anything unless I know that person didn't mind.

  6. Errors in spelling and grammar bothers me a lot - more so in English as it's not my native language. I then think it is a new to me word instead of an error, and waste a lot of time looking up strange, non-existing words ;)
Normally I do not say anything, as most people do not take kindly to being corrected. If it's too bad, I simply stop following or reading.

    1. Charlotte: I might have also looked up some words that didn't exist. Sometimes it's a bit too easy to make an error without realizing it.

  7. My confession - I stopped visiting a blog I have followed for over a decade because they wished for someone to die. It's that person's platform, but I cannot support putting bad juju like that into the universe. It's ok to not like people, but that is a step too far for me.

    1. Samantha: That person shared a bit too much, I think. But I agreed with you, I don't want that kind of bad juju anywhere near me.

  8. I totally agree with you on all accounts. Some pictures of bloggers can be quite off-putting. Others, it would be nice to see one to know who you are talking to. I don't have one on my own blog but I recently had to add one on a group blog, if you are interested in my face, you can have a look here:

And as to typos or wrong links or whatever. Please, point out anything to me that I can correct.

    1. Marianne: I don't mind not knowing how any blogger look. It's the mystery of it that somehow makes blogging a bit more fun.

    2. You are right, sometimes that's nice but once I get to know the blogger better, I do like to know.
