It's almost a tradition (to me) to have a blogroll because it not only promotes other blogs, it's also a way to appreciate other bloggers. If you don't know, a blogroll is a list of blogs that you like or visit often or sometimes just a list of blogs you want others to know about. Blogrolls do not have to be in a single page (like my list which I called bookmarks), they can be a list on the sidebar or even at the bottom of the blog at the footer.
One way I find new blogs is going through other people's blogroll. Not everyone have the same interest but sometimes people do and that's why blogrolls help bloggers find other bloggers. I like to think bloggers can find each other through each other's blog hence blogrolls are useful and purposeful and one way to appreciate other bloggers without too much effort.
Do you like blogrolls?

Maybe I do it without knowing I'm doing it. But, I like visiting other blogs (part of the reason I like the Challenge) and definitely like advertising others. In fact, this morning I'll do the former and will do the latter probably next month.
ReplyDeleteAl Penwasser: Visiting blogs is the main part of the a-z challenge but also finding new blogs.

I feel like this is a big thing people used to do, but with the blogging community shrinking as people stop blogging or move to social platforms, you don't see it as much.
ReplyDeleteI have noticed that. Makes me sad, but I'll keep on.
DeleteSamantha: It's true, there are less blogs out there or at least, it seems so. It's sad that people are more into social media than blogs. In the past, it was the other way around. People use social media to promote blogs but now blogs are kind of used to promote social media.

Al Penwasser: We, bloggers, will all keep on just as you said.

I must admit I rarely look at blogrolls. I mostly find new people via other people's recommendations (like when I list the best posts I've read during the month in my recaps).
ReplyDeleteRoberta: Besides blogrolls, I also use other people's recommendations when they posted links. If someone's posting something I might like to read about, I would go there and end up with a new blog to visit.

My blogroll is horribly, HORRIBLY out of date. I really need to make time to cull all the old discontinued blogs off it and update it with new cool blogs!
ReplyDeleteDebra: I have seen many outdated blogrolls but it's fine. Sometimes it's not easy to update them since bloggers sometimes take a long time to update their blogs. You can't always stay up to date. I try to update my blogroll but sometimes I get lazy.

I occasionally look at blog rolls. More often, I notice a commenter on a blog I like and will check out their blog.
ReplyDeleteLive and Learn: Oh yes, l also sometimes go to a blog when I seem a commenter who said something I relate to or like.

I keep a Blog Roll. I have the type where when someone posts it shows up at the top thus the inactive ones are at the bottom. Last week I thought I should purge a couple off the list that had been inactive for couple years and the very next a new post popped up from one of them! I hate it when you don't know why someone dropped off the face of the earth.
ReplyDeleteMisadventures of Widowhood: Oh yes, there are those surprise updates from blogs that haven't updated in months or years. It really is a bit frustrating when people stopped blogging and don't say why. But I'm always glad when they come back.

I used to click on blogrolls and read stuff from wherever I landed but found it was taking up too much of my time so I stopped doing that and eventually cut my reading list by about 75%.
ReplyDeleteRiver: It's a bit consuming browsing blogrolls but just visiting one or two blogs from a list is fine.
