Fiction: The Hunt on Wind Breaker Island 5

This month's Words for Wednesday prompts are provided by River over here. This week's words/prompts are: a cloud of dust settled around him; slapped in the face with a wet fish; I bowed my head and wept; and I didn't know what else to do. I ended up using only slapped in the face with a wet fish as the others didn't quite seem right for the story.

Fiction: The Hunt on Wind Breaker Island 5

"Hold on," said Jaz. The tall brother was already tightening the knot on the cloth that bound Sedge's wrists together.
"Pull her left arm off. I know it sounds crazy but..." Jaz looked around him and grinned. "Yang Yang is bionic. At least her left arm is." He grinned. "You all know what that means. She broke the law. We can take her to the AABC and you know what they do."
Sedge wanted to punch Jaz and wipe that smile off his face, preferably with both her hands. The AABC, Authorities Against Bionic Corruption, were a bunch of government men tasked with the job of removing all bionic parts from humans whether these parts kept a person alive or not, it didn't matter to them, they will remove it.
"Jaz, we shouldn't give her to the AABC. She can help us find the tooth." Fab walked to stand beside Jaz.
"Fab, Honey, did I asked for your opinion?" Jaz glared at her.
    Fab lowered her eyes. "No."
"I didn't think so. Well? What are all waiting for?" Jaz crossed his arms over his chest. "We, as citizens, have the right to protect ourselves from people like Yang— I guess we should call her Sedge. It's more appropriate. We all know what machines can do to a human. Her mind is corrupted. Now I know why she was murderous toward me. It's such a pity too." Jaz shook his head.
What Sedge wouldn't give for a chance to break his arms and legs right now but that would prove what he was saying and make Sedge even more of an outsider. Jaz's father made machines like the butler among other things but he was also the head of the AABC. Jaz had been trying to get a job there but his father kept refusing him.
The brothers Steve and Austin, had stepped slightly away from Sedge. Davis and Daisy were a few steps away and they were staring at the ground.
"Jaz, please. You love Yang Yang. You even said I couldn't replace her. Please, Jaz." Fab smiled and placed a hand on his arm.
Jaz shifted so that Fab's arm fell away. "That was before I knew she was a freak. We can't risk having her ruin my plan. Now, Steve, or whatever your name is, pull her left arm off before she kills one of you."
    No one moved.
"Fine. I'll do it! Unbound her wrists and hold her." Jaz covered the few steps toward Sedge.
One of the brothers untied the cloth around Sedge's wrists. Then they each gripped one of Sedge's shoulder. These people weren't there because they wanted to, they had no choice. Sedge knew the taste of poverty, the kind that forced you to do things you would never do otherwise. She wouldn't blame them for following Jaz's stupid ideas.
Honestly, Sedge would have no problem hurting Jaz but there was nowhere to go. And then there was Boots. He couldn't go anywhere with an injured shoulder. Silly old Boots. He used to say anything is better than a 'slapped in the face with a wet fish.' He knew the feeling first hand as his father often hit him with whatever was available and since Boots' father was a fisherman, it was usually a fish and sometimes it was dead. This whole situation was better than getting 'slapped in the face with a wet fish.' At least she and Boots were still alive. That much she could be positive about.
A putrid scent passed Sedge's nose. That smell again. Sedge couldn't cover her nose but she lowered her head so that her nose faced downward. A crab with bug-like eyes walked pass her. She wondered if it was the same crab as before.
"Ugh. That smell again." Jaz pinched his nose and waved the air with his other hand. "What in creation made that smell?" The others also had their nose covered.
"Hold your hands up," said Fab. She held the pistol with both hands and was pointing it at Jaz.
Jaz patted the pocket of his pants where he had placed his pistol. "You bi—" He covered his nose. The putrid scent had not gone away.
"I said hold your hands up!" Fab tightened the grip on the pistol.
Jaz held his hands up but then covered his mouth and nose with one hand. "But the smell..."
"Both hands up in the air or else I'll shoot." Fab merged her lips into a tight line.
"Come on, Honey, you're not going shoot me." Jaz dropped his hand but then covered his other hand that was already over his mouth and nose.
"I say both hands up in the air or I'll shoot!" Fab's eyes widened. She appeared not to be bothered by the smell. Sedge didn't know what she was thinking but it was dangerous to mess with Jaz when there's a weapon around.
Jaz reached for the pistol but Fab's grip was strong. The pistol went off. Someone screeched.
"Daisy!" Davis let go of Boots, letting him slumped to the ground, eyes closed. He caught Daisy before she fell. Blood was oozing out between her fingers pressed against her stomach.
Jaz snatched the pistol from Fab and struck her cheek. She fell to the ground. "Don't ever point a gun at me. Do you know why I dated you? You got the looks but you haven't got the brain." Jaz kept one hand over his mouth and nose.
The scent became stronger instead of fading away like it usually did. Sedge wondered why.
Fab covered her cheek with her hand. Her eyes were wide and large. She had a look of a wounded animal. "Bob! Take Jaz's weapon and give it to me!" she shouted.
The butler moved from its spot nearby. It rolled toward them, sunlight gleamed off its metal frames. Fab stood up and she was smiling.
"What the he—" Jaz didn't finish as the butler took the pistol away from him and held it out to Fab.
Fab grabbed the pistol and pointed at Jaz. "Hands up now! Bob, tie this one up, from neck to toe, make sure it's tight so he can't move." Fab sneered. Jaz took a step toward Fab but then stopped when the butler stood in front of him. "Now, wait a minute. Honey, you know, we are partners."
"Yeah, sure, partners, where you get 99.9% and I get the rest. Yeah, like I'm that stupid." Fab took a step back. The butler took out ropes from its bottom compartment and began to wind it around Jaz until he was completely covered except for his head. "Fab, Honey, do you know what happens to people who go against me?" Jaz glared at Fab. "I'm telling you if you don't let me go, I'll make sure your brother never get out of prison and your dear mother, I'm sure she wouldn't be able to stand it, what with her heart condition and all. I'll make sure they suffer because of you."
Fab laughed but her hands shook slightly. Sedge had not seen Fab like this before. Something terrible must have happened for her to act like this.
"Steve, Austin, Davis, stop Fab and I'll pay you double whether you find the tooth or not," said Jaz.
Fab turned and walked toward Sedge. Sedge held up her hands. The brothers Steve and Austin also had their hands up despite the smell still being around. Davis was on the ground cradling Daisy.
"Keep your hands down. Should we make a deal?" Fab lowered the pistol.
The short brother punched Fab in the gut and she fell to the ground. She attempted to shot him but missed. But then she kicked his ankles making him fall. The tall brother grabbed her and twisted her arms behind her. She screamed and dropped the pistol. "Steve, get up, you idiot. And pick up the gun."
The short brother Steve stumbled to his feet. He bended down to pick up the pistol off the ground.
Sedge lifted up her leg to kick Steve to hold him hostage but then Austin, the tall brother, grabbed the pistol from Steve and pressed it against Fab's head. "Try anything and I'll shoot her."
Damm! Sedge didn't like Fab much but she certainly didn't want her dead.
A loud laugh rung out. It came from Jaz.

  2. Aww I was hoping Fab was going to be okay and take out Jaz. Or at least that things would be better. :) I'll have to tune in next time and see what happens now...
