Back when I first starting blogging, I think (as I don't really remember exactly) the reason to blog is simply to share some thoughts on things. And then other things come along, like sharing my artwork and fiction writing and the things I consume (tv shows/movies/books/music) and whatever else I might talk about. I am not an especially talkative person. With a blog, I can be talkative, probably a bit too much.
These days, I blog may be out of habit, out of obligations, out of boredom or just because I can. It may be because I've been blogging so long, whatever I expect or want from blogging is whatever is there at the moment. In other words, I'm so used to blogging, I don't need a reason to do it anymore, I just do it.
How about you? Why do you blog?
I blog because I enjoy it. I like sharing laughs from memes I collect on the internet. And I like sharing my occasional art piece or poem. I also enjoy reading comments and leaving comments on others' blogs. Gives me a chance to sometimes display some wit.
ReplyDeleteDebra: I like to display some wit too but I'm not that smart. I can tell you do enjoy blogging from your blog posts.

I think I blog for the connections - world wide - which delight me. And out of habit and because I can.
ReplyDeleteElephant's Child: You just don't know how wide the world is until you get onto the net. I think having a blog does make you sort of get connected to the world. Habit and ability - yes. But if wi-fi is not working then it's a bit harder to do blog.

I love writing, I love having my words read, I love that I can get to know so many people, and that physical distance does not matter.
ReplyDeleteCharlotte: I agreed with everything you said here. Even I know few people read my writing but that's okay. We can connect to people around the world which we might not since airplane rides are so expensive.

"I am not an especially talkative person. With a blog, I can be talkative, probably a bit too much."
ReplyDeleteI can be talkative with people I trust, but not as much as I am on my blog, so I can relate.
I started off to give an outlet to all the lesser-known books I was reading that didn't get the hype I thought they deserved. And I'm still doing that 12 years later...But in the meantime, blogging for me has evolved into a place where I can blow off steam and forge human connections, and it's a way for me to stay sane in the middle of my life's mayhem...
Roberta: Some people can have a long conversation with a stranger while sitting next to them, me, it takes a lot of time. I guess with a blog, it's easier to talk to people, you don't have to see their faces and wonder what they are thinking, their words are right there.
DeleteI think it's good to let out your grievances in a blog, it really helps to say them. Sometimes a few words from people, even people you haven't met, can help a little. We can get through life's mayhem just a bit easier, I guess, in knowing people care even if you don't quite know them.

I've been blogging for 19 years now. I just really like the interaction with other bloggers, getting to know people and seeing what they like sharing on their blogs too.
ReplyDeleteMary Kirkland: Oh yes, it's always interesting to see what people share on their blogs. No two bloggers post the same thing and even they do, they are still different perspective of the same thing.

I started my blog so I could talk books with other people who love to read as much as me. And those interactions with other bloggers is what keeps me going. Plus, reviewing and posting about the books I've been reading helps me to remember them longer and better.
ReplyDeleteLark: "Reviewing and posting about the books I've been reading helps me to remember them longer and better." - same here. I think now I post books I read mostly for myself, to sort of understand what I read. And if someone find something they like to read from my list of books, it's a good side effect.

I started blogging for a very mundane reason: to keep track of the books I read, and what I thought about them. Same with my gardening blog, I wanted to have a record that I could search through again easily. Making connections with other book bloggers was a big plus!
ReplyDeleteJeane: That's a good reason to start blogging. Sometimes I like to check out my blog posts to see if I had read a book or if I had posted something. Meeting other bloggers is really is big plus.
