It used to be my text app (iText Express for mac) just makes spellchecks but now it corrects my grammar (after I upgraded) and I'm annoyed with it. If they were accurate, I might be fine with it but they are not.
Like the word peace - it kept asking me if I want to change it to piece or if I wrote piece, it ask if I want to change it to peace. Or with words like you're and your or then and than or any words in that similar vein. The suggestions are sort of reasonable but still annoying. (And yes, when I made a spellcheck of this post, it asked me if I want change peace to piece and piece to peace.)
The question is, why is it giving incorrect suggestions? I can't even turn it off because there's no such option. Sometimes it's helpful and other times I just give up. It actually confuses me more because then I second-guess my own decisions. English grammar is confusing enough so I don't need these oddly incorrect grammar suggestions.
Do you hate it when you text or word app corrects your grammar?
I had one piece I worked on in two different programs. One program would tell me to take a comma out and another would tell me to put it in. I find that many grammar rules that I learned in school and are no longer practiced to the point that I'm not sure what's correct any more.

I sure hate autocorrect when I'm texting. I have a much bigger vocabulary than it does and it's always changing my chosen words to stupid ones.

I do not use any editing help when writing. They disturb me and hinder my writing flow. When I'm don I take a break, then read through it, and only then I do a spellcheck. Fortunately I can still deactivate the grammar check, as I mostly disagree with it - and the one percent, where I don't - well, I'll catch those next time I read it through.

DeleteSpeech to text is the one that kills me. It used to work so well...then it got stupid. I speak and it writes what I'm saying, then right as I hit the send button, it CHANGES IT. What they heck, right? At any rate, it's a small annoyance for a huge convenience.

I completely agree - I really don’t like all the “help” from AI. It may be good for the masses, but we writers know our stuff, right? for the most part anyway! (like, I don’t always capitalize, hehe)

I do hate autocorrect because it always chooses the American spelling version and I prefer the English spelling I grew up with in Australia. I don't have anything that corrects my grammar.
ReplyDeleteRiver: It's true, all the text apps I have ever used tried to correct anything not American into American. I imagine it must be frustrating for you. Sometimes I do favour the non-American version words.

Fortunately, I use MS Word on my laptop for all my writing, and it includes the option to turn off Autocorrect. Which is a blessing, really. Autocorrect on my phone is definitely a nuisance, and I don't know how to turn it off.

I don't know a lot about phones but the feature I dislike is when it makes suggestions to a word I'm trying to type, worst then autocorrect - why can't my phone allow me to think for myself?

Not really, most of the time it catches something I miss. It does have an off button so it can't pester me all the time and that takes pressure off. hehehe
